Bone Marrow Month => Marrowthon

Today is “Day 37″ being in the hospital and it looks like the doc has given me the OK to go home. The plan is to discharge me tomorrow and return again some time this week for a bone marrow biopsy- to check to make sure we killed off all the leukemia cells. Hopefully the results come back negative for anything.

I also wanted to share with everyone an article/blog my good friend Tea Nguyen wrote a few weeks ago which can be found HERE. The article was written in recognition of Bone Marrow Month. Tea and her Fiancee, Paul (one of my best friends) sent me a t-shirt they were selling for their oncology club to raise money for children with cancer to go to camp. It is hard to see in the picture, but it reads “Battling cancer…a war worth fighting”.

During the month of June, the National Marrow Donor Program is having a “Marrowthon” where they will waive all fees for potential marrow donors. We plan to work with a few other patients searching for a matching donor to have a weekend of simultaneous bone marrow drives throughout the United States.

    I would like to contact Mathew and let him know that I am a survivor from a bone marrow transplant with AML too.
    my transplant was also at City of Hope. The registry found me an unrelated match and I just met her at the reunion couple months ago. I wanted to know how he’s doing now and wanted to share my story with him;let him know there is always Hope. Waiting to hear from you!

    Ooops hit Submit too soon on the last message.

    I think the Marrowthon will help to find them sooner instead of later. I just know there’s a match out there for you. We just need to get more people into the registry. I also know that the tremendous efforts by Anh’s team are going to be really helpful to all people of Vietnamese descent. Once we find out if Tami’s donation will proceed I will have more time to volunteer with your team here in SJ :)

    Matthew I hope you are home and feeling much better. With the Marrowthon coming up I can’t help but to feel more hopeful that someone will be a match for you!

    hi, matthew! realizing that ethnicity plays such an essential part in locating a match for a bone marrow donor has prompted me to register as a bone marrow donor (since i am chinese). i am expecting my home testing kit soon and hope that i will be a match for someone out there or you, perhaps! keep fighting!
